Vladislav Amelin

Director

Vladislav Amelin is a filmmaker and cinematographer based in Tbilisi, Georgia, whose work spans documentary, narrative film and music video. He trained in film directing and has spent a decade teaching filmmaking to children alongside his own practice as a director, cinematographer and editor.

His work has taken him across a wide range of platforms and institutions, including Meduza, the Lensovet Theatre, Lenfilm, Kino TV and Afisha, and is defined by a quiet, observational approach — films that move carefully through their subjects rather than imposing a narrative on them. His credits include Animakids, The Guard, Man Came Out of Chaos, Endless Blockade and In Between the Sonnets, among others. He describes his work as a search for colour, light and humanity.

Alongside his filmmaking, Amelin is also a composer and musician, playing in the bands Keel the Barber and Inside the Cloud, and has written music for several theatrical productions.

His film documenting the largest anti-government protests in Georgia’s recent history, Sakartvelo: Dances of Freedom, is available to view on the Dancing Turtle website.
